Closing the CIO Leaders Summit Philippines, is Glen Francis, President of the CIO Academy Asia. Glen Francis is the Vice President, Head of Group IT (CIO) for Global Logistic Properties (GLP). He is responsible for IT across the group’s global operations. GLP is listed on the Singapore Exchange.

 

Glen engaged the audience with an interactive, workshop style presentation with the help of Rodell Garcia from Manila Water, Gigi Rapids from Ayala Corporation and Ferdinand Pollute from Energy Development Corporation.

 

Rodell A. Garcia, currently the Chief Technology Adviser and Group Director of Information Technology of Manila Water Company, Inc., has been in the IT industry for 40 years. He joined Manila Water in September, 2012 to oversee the the company’s IT transformation. Prior to this appointment, he was with Globe Telecom for 12 years, occupying positions as Chief Information Officer, Chief Technical Officer, and Head of IT Transformation. He also spent 22 years in the banking industry. Mr. Garcia graduated with a BS Math degree from the Ateneo de Manila University as a scholar of the National Science Development Board.

 

Ferdinand Poblete is a global IT executive, with over 30 years of diverse experience in cross-cultural markets across Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and North America, in varying leadership positions with responsibilities covering IT infrastructure, manufacturing, sales & logistics systems, local & remote people management, strategic planning, business management, new business development, budgeting and cost control.

 

Panel Leads Discussion on The Journey to the Cloud

journeyThe 1st Annual CIO Leaders Summit Philippines hosted a panel discussion on The Journey to the Cloud. Moderated by Director, KMPG Philippines, Jillain Marcel Manrique, the panel spoke on topics such as Rethinking how we deliver functionality and infrastructure, Public verses Hybrid Cloud: Security and Cost, Converting infrastructure staff to Developers, Cloud trading and its Implications, The Impact of Regulatory and Compliance issues.

 

As the Panel continued, They discussed how organisation’s are transforming their business’ which involves re-developing their platform and rethinking how they build functionally as well as culture. A key component from this discussion is the transformation migrating its entire infrastructure to the Cloud.

 

The panel was joined by  SVP & Chief Information Officer at Maynilad Water Services, Inc Francisco Castillo. As a senior leader and also handles the IT Department and also the Automation and Instrumentation Depts. (plant systems), awarded ASEAN CIO year 2013 by IDG

 

Also going on the panel was Randy Sac, Head, Information Management & Technology from Light Rail Manila Corporation. Randy Sac is the Head of Information Management & Technology. Prior to joining LRMC, he was the Country Manager of Virtela Technology Services Inc., a Global Telecom Company offering Managed Network, Data Center, Security, IP Telephony and Cloud Servers. Randy has completed his degree in BS in Computer Engineering, strong in Systems Integration, Cloud Computing and IT Infrastructure.

 

Finally, Nilo Zantua, SVP and Chief Information Officer, Philam Life Insurance, going as the final panelist. Nilo Zantua is also a member of the Board for Philam Life Call Center Services, Inc. (PCCSI). Prior to joining Philam Life in 2012, Nilo was a senior IT executive in-charge of the Asian IT Operations and Infrastructure at Sun Life Financial. Prior to that stint, Nilo was the Regional IT Director for Shared Technology Services of Sun Life Financial, managing IT Operations, Data Center Information Security and Business Continuity in the region.

Proctor and Gamble, Chief Information Officer, Caloi Santos spoke at the 1st Annual CIO Leaders Summit Philippines. Call delivered a thought-provoking presentation on Finding the Sweet Spot Between Positive User Experience and Cost-Savings. Call spoke on today’s practical tips in enabling CIO’s to find the right balance of delivering Positive User Experience against the constant battle on driving cost-savings. At the end of the Session, the Audience were able to leave with clear next steps in their own companies on how to solve this important issue for CIO’s.

 

Caloi Santos has more than 20 years of IT experience. He is currently the Philippine CIO of P&G Philippines in charge of the IT and Shared Services Strategy of the 2nd biggest P&G market in Asia Pacific. He is also concurrently the Asia Delivery Leader for all Projects in P&G in the following areas: Facilities & Real Estate, IT Network and Infrastructure, Employee Solution and Information Security. He continues to be active in the training area leveraging his experience in teaching both graduate and undergraduate degrees in DLSU. He is a Certified Information Security Auditor and passed both the Global Certification for Project Management and Certified Internal Auditor. He was also the 1st graduate of the Masters in Information Technology in the Philippines in 1997 graduating with Honors from DLSU.

Sandra Alarcon Lovenia, Director, IT Resource Management Officer for Ateneo De Manila University, spoke on Ateneo S.U.I.T.s up (Journey towards a better Structure for the University’s I.T.), at the 1st Annual CIO Leaders Summit Philippines. Sandra engaged the audience with her presentation especially with Ateneo’s de Manila’s journey from having decentralised management of IT, towards formation of a central IT organisation for the University.

 

During the session, Sandra discussed Decentralised IT Management in the university until 2011, University Strategic IT plan and the Central IT Organisation and ending with Challenges encountered with the new IT Organisation and Future plans for the University.

Larry Matias Opens the 1st Annual CIO Leaders Summit in Philippines

The 1st Annual CIO Leaders Summit Philippines, was opened by the Larry Matias of the Starbucks, Philippines. Larry  is the very first Chief Information Officer for Starbucks Philippines. In 2015, after 5 years in Jollibee Foods Corporation as its global CIO, Mr. Matias decided to pursue a Singapore-based advisory assignment as part of the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, but was instead convinced to stay in the Philippines by Starbucks.

Larry’s digitalisation and innovation efforts have been recognised by the industry as a board member of SAP Asia Pacific Innovation Board in 2015, as a Top 100 honouree by MIS Asia in 2012, and then again as a 2014 Top 100 honouree, this time by CIO Asia. His career spans over 32 years across various industries i.e. food, pharmaceutical, distribution, retail, telecommunications, mobile commerce and IT/electronics; and has direct extensive experience in establishing shared services, ERP and platforms migration, M&A operational integration, setting up of new sites, multi-cultural organization management and integrating outsource partners regionally or locally.

Opening the Annual CIO Leaders Summit Philippines, Larry spoke on Making Sense of Digital Transformation. Larry spoke on the digital age being upon us and it is unavoidable and understanding what digital business is all about. He spoke about ways to go about it and how it is a daunting task for those CIO’s charged with leading our companies’ through their own digital transformation.

 

Larry’s session shed light on the subject of digital strategies, how to cut through the jargon and providing a practical framework towards developing and implementing a companies’ digital business strategy.

Glen Francis has over 20 years of technology experience and has served on a number of executive boards and forums. Glen enjoys creativity and innovation, and is well respected by his peers in the industry. He is the current President for IDeationEdgeAsia, President for CIO Academy Asia, Vice President for IT Management Association, he serves on two institutes of higher learning as their technology board adviser and he mentors several startup companies.

In his most recent appointment, Glen was the Group CIO for Global Logistic Properties Limited (“GLP”), responsible for Technology across the organization’s global operations across 76 cities. GLP is listed on the Singapore Exchange with a market capitalization of approximately US$10 billion. He joined GLP shortly after their listing in Singapore, and helped setup their technology platforms, security framework, data center, organizational, PMO, ITMO, and M&A requirements for expansion and joint ventures.

Before joining GLP, he was the Regional Head of IS, Asia Pacific for RS Components Pte Ltd (“RS”). He was part of the Global IS executive management team representing the Asia Pacific Business, reporting to Group Headquarters located in the United Kingdom. He was involved in the consolidation of the technology group regionally across Asia Pacific, and later globally with the UK operations. Glen was involved in helping to transform RS’s traditional business to one that is eCommerce.

Prior to RS, Glen worked at Aon as their Regional Director for Asia Pacific, leading the development of a newly formed corporate initiative called Revenue Engine. He has championed many transformational initiatives within the organization across different countries, functions and companies. He worked for the first 5 years as their head for eBusiness and IT in Asia Pacific before being promoted to Regional Director for Revenue Engine.

Glen also worked in Intel, Xircom leading their US$40 million digital transformation project. Prior to Intel, Glen worked in a startup for Pacific Internet, and he has helped in several other organizations.

Kate Swanborg is Head of Technology Communications and Strategic Alliances for DreamWorks Animation. She is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the studio’s worldwide technology communications and business-to-business marketing efforts on behalf of the studio’s technology partners that include Hewlett Packard and Intel.

In her roles, Kate promotes DreamWorks Animation’s dedication to leveraging innovative technologies that enable the studio’s filmmakers and artists, and provide the foundation for new technology business initiatives.  She is responsible for identifying and managing technology alliances and integrated co-marketing and branding campaigns with the studio’s technology partners.  Collaborating closely with the studio and strategic alliance partner executive leadership teams, Kate ensures that DreamWorks Animation delivers consistent and compelling technology messages through a variety of mediums including presentations, press collateral, and studio showcases.  A practiced public speaker, Kate is frequently requested to provide keynote addresses to further DreamWorks’ business messaging.

Previous to her current roles, Kate served as the studio’s Technology Production Manager where she collaborated with executive leadership, senior technology managers and film producers to develop strategies and action plans for producing animated feature films including Kung Fu Panda 2, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon and the Academy Award Winning Shrek. Kate also managed the integration of technology solutions for production, including major initiatives such as stereoscopic 3D and a full re-architecture of the studio’s proprietary tool sets.

Kate earned a MFA from the University of California, San Diego and a BA from Western Michigan University.
